The INTERCEPT Blood System for Plasma consists of the INTERCEPT Processing Set for Plasma and the INTERCEPT™ Illuminator INT100/INT200 medical devices and is intended for the ex vivo preparation and storage of pathogen inactivated plasma intended for transfusion. The system is used to inactivate a broad spectrum of bacteria, viruses, parasites as well as contaminating donor leukocytes in plasma components. The device uses amotosalen (a photoactive compound) and low energy ultraviolet (UVA) illumination to photochemically treat plasma. The INTERCEPT™ Blood System is the only US/FDA and EU/MDR approved pathogen inactivation system for platelets and plasma.
