EPR-based biodosimetry estimates radiation exposure by detecting stable, radiation-induced free radicals trapped in hard tissues—most reliably tooth enamel (best validated), and also bone and fingernails. Because the EPR signal scales with radical concentration, it can be calibrated to provide an objective, quantitative dose estimate.
