Genital prolapse, commonly called “organ descent”, is depicted in woman by the downward sliding of one or more pelvic organs. Due to sagging, these organs press and deform the vaginal wall until, in certain cases, they exteriorize.
Three organs can be affected by a prolapse: the bladder (cystocele), the uterus (hysterocele) and the rectum (anterior rectocele, the rectum exits through the vagina).
Pessaries are used to contain the prolapse. There are several forms. The best known and most used are rings and cubes. In addition, and to meet all needs, we find donuts, dish styles, Gellhorn. Depending on the indication and the morphology of the patient, there will be a specific shape that will best suit her. You must then define the size of the pessary.
