Our Product Range for Medical Packaging
Our extensive portfolio includes specialized papers for sterile packaging under the SteriKraft® and MediKraft® brands, engineered to provide uncompromised protection across diverse healthcare applications.
• SteriKraft®: Our SteriKraft® papers are engineered as microbial barrier papers with applications in packaging single-use devices and reusable devices. These papers meet the rigorous standards of sterility essential for products like syringes, needles, vascular access devices, catheters, surgical gloves, gowns, drapes, and other sterile medical products. SteriKraft® supports various sterilization methods and features advanced contamination control with inline Web Inspection Systems (WIS) and internal bioburden labs, ensuring sterility from manufacturing to the point of use. SteriKraft is compatible with direct seal packaging applications, making it ideal for TFFS top web, pouches, and roll stock formats.
• MediKraft®: Our MediKraft® line offers high-strength paper solutions for non-microbial barrier applications. MediKraft® paper is widely used in the inner wrapping of single-use surgical gloves, examination table covers, and wound care products like plasters and bandages. MediKraft is compatible with cold-seal and heat-seal packaging applications, and is known for excellent runnability and strength, MediKraft® papers allow for lightweighting without compromising packaging performance, while ensuring purity with 100% virgin fiber and zero recycled content.
Unmatched Process Control and Sustainability
At Billerud, we have developed industry-leading process controls that maintain cleanliness, strength, and safety throughout production. Our in-house pulp production and integrated inspection systems, including the advanced PM7 inline film press, ensure every step meets rigorous cleanliness and contamination-free standards. Key process measures include bioburden analysis, air emission control, and precise chemical management to ensure our papers are safe, pure, and sterile. No Optical Brightening Agents (OBA) are used, maintaining the integrity and purity of the paper. Each jumbo reel of paper is subjected to cross-section testing, comprehensive quality checks, and full traceability, assuring consistency and compliance with all medical regulations.

Billerud is committed to reducing its environmental impact. We use 98% fossil-free energy in our production and aim to achieve fully fossil-free European operations by 2030. Our medical papers, produced from responsibly sourced wood close to our mills, have a low carbon footprint and support a circular economy. As a member of the Sterile Barrier Association (SBA), we are at the forefront of developing sustainable sterile packaging for healthcare.
